Since we’re in social networking, we have to use social networks to promote ourselves, right? I was reading about various strategies to promote a blog. And found an amazing article by Dave McClure.
In short, Dave recommends the following seven steps for promoting your business/organisation using Facebook:
- Set Up Your Graph: Profiles & Privacy
- Make Connections: Networks, Groups & Events
- The Need for Feed: Your [Shared] Social Activity Stream
- Share Your Content: Share & People-Tag Your Stories & Media
- App to the Future: The Facebook Platform, APIs, & Applications
- Pay to Play: Ad Networks, Sponsored Stories, & Paid Distribution
- Show Me The Bunny: Gifts, Points, & Virtual Currency

This seems to be brilliant: use the social networks to promote your business. We all know, those business are after the end users. Thanks to the information these users are constantly feeding into the network, these business will know how to target them. But how about when Politics try to step in by regulating the use of private data (Read: http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/11/23/eu-may-crack-down-on-targeted-advertising/)
Would this mess up with this new way of doing Business?
I guess old principles of not being evil still apply. In case businesses merely use social dynamics to promote genuinely good products and services, end users will only benefit from it.
I think it is good that governments step up to establish the rules of the game. Hopefully they will judge wisely :)
Do you fairly think this is news? I like and read your blog to get necessary information, but sometimes melancholy kills me
